River Una the pearl of Kostajnica

River Una rises in a village called Donja Suvaja under the Stražbenica mountain in Croatia, and it flows into river Sava near Jasenovac. The overall length of the river is 212 km. It got its name from the ancient Romans who, seeing its beauty, sighed and said: “UNA”, which is Latin for “one” or “one and only”.

The overall watercourse of river Una on the Kostajnica municipality territory is 14 km. In this region Una has the characteristics of a calmer Pannonian lowland river and it is getting shallower due to limestone deposition. River Una is suitable for various sports and recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, boating, and it is very attractive in the summer time when its banks are full of swimmers and those who enjoy picnics.
